los angeles fair 2008 question by John: Why does Chicago have the highest amount of gang members?
I know that crime in the city is going down, but LA and New York have lower homicide rates, so I decided to do research and found out from ABC National Evening news that Chicago, according the the Chicago Police Department has an estimate the gang population in the city at 100,000. The New york times article in 2008 states about 17,000 in New York City(8 mill+people), and LA according to the LA POlice department, from Wikipidea, having 26,000 gang members. Why does Chicago have so much more?
Why am I getting bad answers from here? I love chicago and grew up here and someone suggest then I move? I am sorry you guys can not answer the question and then I was confused of the first 2 answers I got! What are you guys trying to say?

Benny, you are right that these are estimates, but Chicagos numbers and NY numbers and LA numbers are very far apart! I am refering to the cites themselves and if you include cook county as you have for LA county, god knows how much cook county has also.

The first problem you have is Chicago government, which has traditionally been corrupt. The next problem is that the police department are “handcuffed” by the city Mayor, and the City Council, and have been rendered powerless to do much about the gang problem. The next problem you have is the extreme gun control legislation imposed by Cook County, which keeps honest, law abiding civilians from purchasing, practicing with, and protecting themselves. If civilians were permitted to buy weapons to defend themselves, and use them, you would see dramatic decreases in gang activities and violent crime rates.

In “shall issue” states, ( concealed weapons permits ) the crime rates have dropped dramatically. But in Illinois, which is a “no issue” state, the crime rate stays increasingly high, as well does gang activities.

Your solution? Get rid of all the Democrats in your City Council, and your mayors office. Restore your rights to defend yourselves, and you’ll see city streets taken back that you can walk on again.

I went to see him in 2002.We were 4th row center stage. He did Cruisin and had both sides of the audience compete to see who could sing it the best. Our side won!:0)Then we got to go backstage and meet him.He is a really sweet person. He asked me if I liked his show, and I said yes it was fantastic. He hugged me and said thank you,I’m so glad you enjoyed it.I will never forget how sweet he was.I also remember the smell of his cologne,he smelled so good!!!It was a night I have never forgotten!!!

You can’t help but love smokey. He’s like a cool breeze on the beach. In interviews he’s such a gentleman. I remember in an interview he said that music was his passion and that he would do it
for free but he’s fortunate to be paid to do what he loves the best, music. Love you Smokey.
